Equine Therapist

Sandy Duemmler is a Nationally Certified Counselor, Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing-trained therapist, and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the states of Florida and Connecticut.  A northeasterner at heart, Sandy grew up in Connecticut, raised a family and worked with Special Ed children in a middle school setting before moving to Florida in 2014.

Once settled in Boca Raton, she was sworn in as a Guardian ad Litem for the 15th Judicial Circuit for the West Palm Beach Court.  After establishing herself in the community, Sandy opened a private practice called “Women in Transition Counseling” in Boca Raton at the Heart Connection Center before accepting a Clinical Mental Health Therapist position with Behavioral Health of Palm Beaches.

In addition to her clinician role, Sandy also accompanied patients for weekly Equine Therapy sessions at Horses Healing Hearts (HHH) in June 2019.  It was here that Sandy witnessed firsthand the beneficial impact on virtually all patients, but specifically those who struggled with complex trauma.  Sandy joined the HHH Equine Therapy Team in August 2020.

Sandy has always shown a deep love for animals throughout her life and has recently established a small shelter in her home for rescues which she fondly refers to as “The Sandy Paws Shelter.”

In addition to her licensures and certifications, Sandy holds an MA in Clinical Counseling from Fairfield University and a BA in Psychology from the University of Connecticut.

Why I work with HHH
“It is truly inspirational to feel the peace and calm from the presence of and interaction with the horses. Many clients leave with a pivotal “ah hah” moment which we later hear was significant in their recovery journey. Animals have a great healing power for anyone who opens their heart and soul to allow the experience.  I am grateful to be a member of the HHH team and witness the spiritual gifts the horses offer all of us.”
